The Tarsheed Teacher Training Program held its third educational training workshop in the State of Qatar through a workshop titled “Student-Led Assessment,” delivered by educational consultant Ms. Ghada Maalouf on Friday and Saturday, 15-16 May 2026, with the participation of a group of teachers and educational supervisors from various educational stages.
The workshop, hosted by the Arab International Academy -Lusail, brought together around 20 participants from different schools. Each participant received a copy of the book “Student-Led Assessment”, published by Tarsheed Educational Publications, authored by Starr Sackstein, translated by Ali Ezzeddine.
The workshop aimed to enable teachers to explore how student-led assessment redefines the role of the student as the primary source of evidence of their own learning. Through practical models and interactive activities, participants were introduced to the use of portfolios and student-led conferences, while reducing reliance on standardized testing in order to build assessment systems that are more accurate, meaningful, and in-depth.
The workshop also provided practical frameworks and ready-to-use tools that strengthen student voice and agency within the classroom, drawing on real classroom examples and contemporary educational practices that support active learning and long-term understanding.
By the end of the workshop, teachers were able to apply the principles of student-led assessment in their classrooms through practical approaches that enhance student participation and develop students’ ability to reflect on and document their own learning.
