Development of School Curricula: Authorship of History Textbooks

Development of School Curricula: Authorship of History Textbooks

Tarsheed has authored a series of school textbooks in general history for grades six through ten in the Arabic language, to be used as a core component of the history curriculum.

The development of these textbooks began through a series of workshops organized by the Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies. The workshops brought together university professors and historians from various Arab countries, in addition to educational consultants and specialists in the teaching of social studies at the school level.

Participants in these workshops defined the general objectives of teaching general history in terms of the knowledge and skills to be developed among students, particularly those related to research, inquiry, critical thinking, and communication. The participants also emphasized the importance of adopting modern teaching approaches and strategies that place the student at the center of the teaching and learning process, moving away from rote memorization and traditional didactic instruction.
