A discussion on the book "Student-Led Assessment" was held on Thursday, August 13, 2026, via Zoom. The session was facilitated by educational consultant Ali Ezzeddine and brought together teachers from different grade levels across the Arab world.
The discussion explored some of the key ideas and practices presented in the book, particularly its call to reconsider the learner’s role in the assessment process and to move from viewing students as recipients of assessment results to engaging them as active partners in gathering evidence of their learning, understanding their progress, and identifying the next steps in their learning journey.
Participants discussed a number of practical applications presented in the book, including portfolios, student-led conferences, and approaches to reducing reliance on standardized tests. The book also offers models and classroom examples that help teachers develop assessment practices that are more closely connected to the learning process and better able to strengthen student voice and agency.
The session also provided a space for participants to exchange ideas and experiences on how these practices can be applied in different educational contexts, as well as the challenges that may arise when implementing student-led assessment in the classroom.
Student-Led Assessment, published by Tarsheed Educational Publications in 2026, presents assessment as an integral part of the learning process. It offers a range of practices and tools that give students a more active role in assessing their own learning, monitoring their progress, and making decisions that contribute to the development of their learning journey.
