Tarsheed Educational Publications has released the second edition of Edition of Hacking School Discipline, authored by Nathan Maynard and Brad Weinstein and translated into Arabic by educator Naeem Hammad. The new edition comes in response to the book's positive reception among teachers, school leaders, and education professionals interested in classroom management and student behavior.
The book addresses one of the most pressing challenges in educational settings: managing student behavioral issues in light of their diverse forms and their impact on learning and school relationships. It raises fundamental questions about the effectiveness of traditional disciplinary approaches, examining whether punitive measures truly contribute to creating safe and well-disciplined school environments or, in some cases, exacerbate problems and produce unintended psychological and educational consequences.
The authors present a practical approach based on restorative practices, emphasizing relationship-building and repairing the harm caused by inappropriate behavior rather than relying solely on punishment and exclusion. This approach promotes dialogue, active listening, collaboration, and accountability, helping students understand the consequences of their actions and take an active role in repairing the harm they have caused.
The book consists of nine chapters, each focusing on a common behavioral challenge in schools and offering practical, evidence-informed strategies that educators can readily implement. Drawing on real-life examples, the authors discuss implementation challenges and provide guidance on overcoming them. The book also equips teachers with practical tools to strengthen classroom management and foster a positive school climate built on healthy relationships and shared responsibility.
As the authors emphasize, "School culture is not created through better policies, but through better relationships." This guiding principle underpins the practical strategies and solutions presented throughout the book.
The volume comprises 192 pages in a medium-sized format and serves as a practical resource for teachers and school leaders seeking more effective and humane approaches to student behavior management, ultimately supporting learning and fostering more just, cohesive, and supportive school communities.
